LAURA MULVEY
REPRESENTATION
Particularly focusing on gender, this is one of the most obvious aspects of representation which is conveyed through music videos. The image of the music artist is very important and is carefully analysed when planning their music video. From clothes to setting, the artist focuses on how they will come across to their audiences, particularly how the 'narrative' is portrayed.
Laura Mulvey (1992):
"In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly."
In this video the women are objectified sexually through the use of camera techniques, close ups. The screenshots document what Laura Mulvey states about the representation of women in music videos, these close ups suggest the men's perception of women. The Women are pleasing the man through their body language.
