Research: Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey was very fierce on her criticism on the rules of representation. She came up with the term 'male gaze' - which means what counts in the video is what the woman/women provoke. What they represent to everyone watching the video. She quoted that "a woman is the 'bearer' of the meaning, not the 'making' of the meaning."

Below is a picture of Laura Mulvey:

There are a lot of videos that support Laura Mulvey's theory on representation.

Some of these being:

'Beyonce - Single Ladies'

'Dizzee Rascal - Holiday'

These two videos offer a great explanation as to what Laura Mulvey is trying to explain. Woman are used like objects, there for the 'male gaze' - thus attracting more viewers upon the video.

The picture below is taken from the Dizzee Rascal 'Holiday' video, and is clearly focusing on the woman's body, for the benefit of the 'male gaze'. Exactly what Laura Mulvey has been talking about.
